Who are you? | What kind of SXR rider are you? |
I'm the person who tells dad jokes at parties. | Commuter - I cycle to most places I go. |
What does cycling mean to you? | Tell me about your bike(s)? |
Cycling gives me plenty of incidental exercise and the ability to get to most places near me within a reasonable amount of time, when I want to. Occasional conversation at traffic lights with a fellow cyclist. Being free from train timetables when I want to head into the city. Not being designated driver on weekends when I don't feel like drinking! | I currently have two bikes. 'Big deal' you might say, but one of them was my first adult bike, a $100 model from Kmart. Doesn't sound all that swell, and the ride is atrocious, but it was freedom. The other bike is a Tokyo bike. It makes a world of difference having a high quality bike as opposed to a bicycle that is built to a low price point. It really makes taking the long way home, or keeping up with traffic that much more fun. |
If bicycles didn’t exist, you would…?Have much less time. Spending weekends around the city, it means I can fit in a heap of activities while not having to think about parking. | Your favourite ride in Sydney?Near the arterial roads leading out of Sydney Airport lurk some amazing cycle paths. The airport being a place that represents hope and dreams, for me the stretch from the International runways out to Botany is the best. At night, that view! |
Favourite place in the world to cycle? | Anything else you want to add? |
I've cycled in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Melbourne is the best because there seemed to be a mature city-driving culture. Having trams, one can guess that drivers there are prepared to share with other road users! | Two words - preventative maintenance! I had no fewer than six flat tubes in the first year that I had the new bike. I might have been extremely unlucky, or simply careless about tyre pressure, which contributed to at least one flat. |
