Hope you're all coping somehow. No rides for this month. But it is a good time to clean all those bikes, learn to fix a bike, learn to build a bike, bike trip planning, bike bag building, bike rave planning, you get the drift. This is the one time we want to see a flat. #FlattenTheCurve .
Only a few more weeks of Summer so let's pay homage to as many ocean pools as we can so we can go for a night ride and night swim.
This week's ride is to Mahon Pools in Maroubra. Riding next to the light rail around Centennial Park, then taking the back streets of Kensington and Kingsford, onto Maroubra road down into Maroubra to Mahon Pools. We'll spend 30 mins there going for a swim and share some nibbles. Distance: 25 km return (about 1 hour one way) Difficulty: Mostly flat until Maroubra road, and a flatter route back to Redfern. Route: link Happy Chinese New Year. To celebrate the year of the rat we'll head down to Pyrmont through Central square, back streets of Pyrmont and through to darling square to see the interactive installation at Darling Square. After gathering our good fortune from the rat we'll roll to the Rose hotel in Chippendale for a beverage and bite.
Route: link More info: link Bring: Lights, bags to carry your good fortune, tunes. Combining Martin Luther King day street art and gelato. We'll meander around chippendale and the inner west to check out some street art ending with Gelato and the "I have a dream" mural in Newtown.
The ride started with a mural of Danny Lim by Scottie Marsh and around the streets of Marrickville and then Newtown to find Danny Lim in front of the Martin Luther King mural Full circle. We'll hit up a few trees starting at the usual spot in Redfern (front of Pride of Redfern cafe). From Redfern to Green Square library, Pleasant Avenue and finishing up at Erskineville park Option to hang in the park or head down to the Erko for a beverage and bite. Route: link Distance: 8 km loop Bring: Lights, Lights, Lights, tunes, xmas joy, anything else you want to share (I heard someone with a cargo bike might be loading up with some good ole fashion ice blocks). The sculptures are by the sea south of the harbour bridge for one last year (maybe). Ride through Centennial Park towards Mark's Park Tamarama, lock up the bikes go for a walk check out the words and regroup at the park for reflections and a shared plate.
