Who are you?My name is Iain. I work in Sustainability and my office is in a converted cottage. I don’t smoke, drink, do drugs, drink coffee or have a driver's license, yet I still seem to function okay. What does cycling mean to you?Cycling is freedom. It has a really large, positive impact for me - I have lost weight, gained stamina and health and also many friends. I have also discovered many parts of Sydney that I have never visited before. Cycling allows me to explore and go at my own pace and I feel lets me take in a lot more of my journey than say, being in a train or a bus. Cycling is also a way for me to be sustainable, especially as I still haven’t gotten around to getting my drivers license. Your favourite ride in Sydney?Travelling from my home in Beecroft to the City via Rhodes and all the little bays along the way up into Rozelle. | We're launching a new series featuring our SXR members's stories. We start with Iain, our own Video Guy. Iain is the loveliest guy-on-a-bike you could ever meet. And we're very happy to share his inspiring story. What kind of SXR rider are you?Casual, non-lycra rider. I mainly come to the day time events as I don’t live near Redfern, however have been making the effort to come to the Tuesday night rides and it’s fantastic. Tell me about your bike(s).I currently have a Trek DS8.3 which I bought in 2013 to celebrate my 25th birthday. I have done over 5700km on it and it is holding up well. I bought it at the Trek store in Rouse Hill (Dan the mechanic is amazing by the way!). I have replaced the tyres once due to wear, and even though it’s due for a major service it is still performing well. If bicycles didn’t exist, you would…?Probably be a lot fatter. |
